Two people suffered minor injuries after a single-vehicle crash this morning near the Vic West skate park after police attempted to stop the vehicle.
In the early hours of Sunday morning, VicPD officers witnessed a vehicle driving on the wrong side of the road near the intersection of Tyee Road and Esquimalt Road, which led to a dramatic crash.
According to witnesses, the vehicle, believed to be a Chevrolet sedan, was badly damaged, and a lamp post was knocked over.
After police spotted the vehicle at around 3 a.m., they activated their emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop. The driver failed to pull over, and as officers prepared to deactivate their emergency equipment, the vehicle crashed around the corner.
The single-vehicle collision resulted in minor injuries for both the driver and a passenger. Emergency responders attended the scene to provide medical assistance, and both individuals were treated for their injuries.

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO BC) has been notified to determine whether police actions contributed to the crash. VicPD has confirmed that traffic analysts have been on-site to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police are now appealing to the public for information. Anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the incident is urged to contact VicPD to aid in their investigation.
The IIO BC has yet to release a statement on the incident.
