Early Thursday morning, at around 6 a.m., a garbage truck caught fire during its rounds.
Thanks to the quick thinking of the driver and the rapid response of fire crews, the situation was swiftly and safely managed.
Upon noticing smoke coming from the truck, the driver immediately dialed 911 and, without hesitation, drove directly to the firehall at 1025 Johnson Street.
The fire chief, who was in his office, quickly contacted the driver and assured him that help was on the way.
Firefighters guided the driver to move the truck away from the building for safety.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the smouldering garbage quickly, preventing the fire from spreading, resulting in minimal damage to the truck.
According to a social media post from the Victoria Firefighters Association, no one was injured.
“A big thank you to the driver for staying calm under pressure and to the members of D Platoon for their fast response and professionalism!” the post reads.
They added another thanks to Fire Chief Atkinson for being on site to capture the footage.
