The Township of Esquimalt is seeking feedback from the public on where they would like to see a public, multi-use dock be implemented in the community.
According to the Township, a public dock is an opportunity to create community space along Esquimalt’s shorelines.
This amenity would be built to serve all residents of Esquimalt and to align with ongoing restoration initiatives.
In summer of last year, staff put forward a request to have proposals submitted to the Township for analysis in order to guide the next steps in the process.
Then, in the fall and winter, Township staff worked with a team of landscape architects and biologists to look at options and communicate the pros and cons of 18 potential sites in the township.
The sites that are on the table are both along the Gorge Waterway and the southern shoreline of Esquimalt.
A survey has now been launched by the Township to gauge what the public wants from a public dock.

Each site has been assigned a ‘priority level’ score that shows how suitable they are when compared to one another.
The more points a site earns based on its merits, the higher priority it becomes. A “Priority Level 1” site is a higher scoring site when compared to a “Priority Level 3” site.
Additionally, Esquimalt residents can learn more about the project at an in-person open house being held at Esquimalt Gorge Pavilion from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. on January 23rd.
The next steps after the public engagement phase will be to analyze the feedback and choose a location for the future public dock.
