Take the time to slow down and enjoy a few low-stakes activities such as a bookstore wander, a beach visit (and polar plunge, if you’re feeling brave), and a Lego exhibit.

BC SPCA Calendar Contest

It’s time for your pet’s close-up!

The annual BC SPCA contest is back—it kicked off on Monday, January 27th and runs until Saturday, February 15th.

All you have to do is sign up and invite your friends and family to donate in support of your photo-ready pet. Then the 12 chosen animals with the most votes will win a full-page feature in their 2026 calendar!

 LEGO Exhibit at the Sidney Museum

The Sidney Museum has officially welcomed back their famous LEGO exhibit for its 19th year, running from December 20th to March 30th, 2025.

Not only will they return with their usual creative and innovative LEGO splendour, but they’ll be introducing a new feature this year too!

Get ready for the launch of the “Community Creations” display, which includes the LEGO creations of different community members.

Admission to this marvelous exhibit is by donation!

  • Where: Sidney Museum, 2423 Beacon Avenue in the lower level of the Old Post Office building
  • When: Runs from December 20th to March 30th, 2025—open during museum hours

Go For a Sunset Polar Dip

This stretch of of the coast is popular for a reason! The entire length of Dallas Road is neighboured with breathtaking views of the ocean.

If you’re feeling brave and in need of an exhilarating pick-me-up, there are multiple staircases along the path for beach access points, so get on that bathing suit and get polar plunging!

Plus, anywhere along Dallas is a great place to watch the sunset.

Books & Shenanigans

Poke around Books & Shenanigans—an adorable used and new bookstore on Cook Street, right by Mocha House!

It’s the perfect stop for a dreary winter afternoon, and will keep you cozy and entertained for hours, should you choose.

Not only do they have a wide variety of books, they also sell little bits and bobs for gifts or decor, as well as puzzles!

  • When: Tuesday, January 28th from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Trivia at Hecklers Bar and Grill

Don’t miss out on Sixty Watt Trivia at Hecklers Bar and Grill!

Bring your team and get ready to crank out some wild facts, play along to win prizes, and treat yourself to some of their delicious food and beverages.

Trivia starts at 7 p.m. but make sure to come early—especially if you have a larger table, otherwise you’ll have to come back next week!

No fee to play and they allow teams of up to 8 people.
