Looking for something dazzling? As a part of Little Fernwood’s renovation fundraiser, there’s a drag floorshow at Paul Phillips Hall!

Here’s 5 things to do in and around Victoria on Thursday, January 23rd:

Tongues of Fire Poetry Slam

Looking to share your poetry with others?

Tongues of Fire Poetry Slam takes place on Thursdays at Caffè Fantastico in Quadra Village. There are two-round slams, with a time limit of three minutes in each round.

Eight poets may compete in each slam! If there are more than eight that sign up, names are drawn to determine who competes.

  • Where: Caffè Fantastico, 965 Kings Road
  • When: Thursday, January 23rd at 7 p.m. (sign up at 6:30 p.m.)

Queers and Beers

Join Queers and Beers for their first hang of 2025!

It’ll be held at Moon Under Water Drop, and everyone is welcome to drop by between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Grab a tasty beverage, help them kick off the new year and make some pals!

  • Where: Moon Under Water Brewpub and Distillery, 350 Bay Street
  • When: Thursday, January 23rd from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The Floorshow at Little Fernwood

As a part of Little Fernwood’s renovation fundraising events, come take in an evening of drag extravagance while raising money for a good cause!

There will be a door prize, a mini art market and non-alcoholic beverages for sale.

All tickets are by donation and 100% of proceeds go towards the renovation fund. The suggested donation is $15 to $25 for adults and $10 for youth.

  • When: Thursday, January 23rd at 6:30 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.)

Whales & Other Cetaceans

BestCoast Outfitters is hosting guest speaker Lindsay Kolb, exploring whales and the different species of cetaceans commonly seen in BC.

They’ll also take a closer look at local whale populations and ecology as well as the various threats they face and what can be done to mitigate them.

This is a free event, and you can reserve your spot by emailing sales@bestcoastoutfitters.com.

Community Lunch at James Bay United Church

Community in action!

Every Thursday, everyone is welcome to gather for a delicious hot lunch at James Bay United Church, served with care and kindness by their volunteers.

Join them in the Lower Hall, access is via the east-side steps or west-side ramp.
