RCMP drug investigation leads to significant seizure on Vancouver Island

A major drug seizure in Campbell River resulted in the confiscation of substantial quantities of illegal drugs and cash last month.

On November 20th, the Campbell River Street Crime Unit, supported by the Community Response Unit and the Major Crimes Unit, executed a search warrant at a location in the 1300 block of Shoppers Row.

During the search, officers uncovered over 900 grams of cocaine, more than 200 grams of fentanyl, 260 hydromorphone pills (commonly known as Dilaudid), and over $26,000 in cash.

Notably, police said evidence at the scene indicated the illegal production of crack cocaine and the altering and diluting of fentanyl.

The hydromorphone pills seized during the operation are believed to have been diverted from a safe supply source.

“In addition to the seized materials, there was also evidence of crack cocaine being made in the room and Fentanyl being dyed and diluted,” said Cst. Maury Tyre, Media Relations Officer for the detachment.

A 34-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation and subsequently released, with a court appearance scheduled for February.  RCMP plans to recommend drug trafficking charges against both the man and a 32-year-old woman.
