The Royal Jubilee hospital will become the second hospital in BC to introduce a surgical robot thanks to an incredible milestone for the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, and one that will benefit all of the city’s residents!
The 32nd annual Visions Gala, hosted by the Victoria Hospitals Foundation, was a night to remember, raising an impressive $2.75 million for cutting-edge surgical innovation at Royal Jubilee and Victoria General hospitals.
Held on the evening of Saturday, November 16th, at the Fairmont Empress Hotel, the black-tie event brought together 620 community leaders, philanthropists, and caregivers in support of local healthcare.
This year’s gala was particularly special, as it marked the largest caregiver attendance in the event’s history—with over 100 local physicians, surgeons, and nurses in attendance!
The funds raised brought the Foundation’s newly-launched It’s Time for Surgical Innovation campaign to a $6 million milestone, advancing toward the overall goal of $17 million.
In a media release, Dr. Jeff McCracken, Chief Urologist at both Royal Jubilee and Victoria General, spoke passionately about the transformative potential of robotics in surgical care.
With prostate cancer patients set to be the first beneficiaries, Dr. McCracken emphasized how the introduction of state-of-the-art robotic technology would greatly improve patient outcomes.
“Bringing advanced technologies right to our doorstep means we are no longer limited with what we can accomplish in minimally invasive care,” he said.
“We will have state-of-the-art surgical tools in the hands of the incredible surgeons here giving patients the best possible chance for recovery and healing. The power of this technology to change lives is immeasurable.”
This new technology will not only enhance patient care but will also ensure that local hospitals remain at the forefront of healthcare innovation, helping to attract and retain top-tier medical talent.

One of the night’s most exciting moments came during the live and silent auctions, with an exclusive package donated by BC Place—a private suite for 14 people to attend Taylor Swift’s sold-out concert in Vancouver.
The Millar and Glickman families purchased the package for an astounding $260,000, marking one of the highest bids in the evening’s history.
“I am truly humbled by the incredible generosity of our community,” Avery Brohman, CEO of the Victoria Hospitals Foundation said.
“Volunteers, philanthropists, physicians, and local businesses came together as one to make bold advancements in our healthcare system.”
Together, the community hopes to ensure that the future of healthcare in Victoria remains bright and innovative.
