A novice driver will have a lot of explaining to do after crashing their vehicle during a traffic stop on the Island Highway near the Colwood and View Royal border last night.
West Shore RCMP were conducting speed enforcement Thursday night on the Island Highway, near the Colwood and View Royal border, when they clocked a truck travelling at 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone.
When the officer activated their emergency lights and sirens to stop the vehicle, the truck rear-ended another car that had pulled over to make way for the police.

The truck’s driver, who holds an “N” designation under BC’s graduated licensing program, provided a roadside breath sample that registered at “50” milligrams of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood.
While this is below the legal limit for most drivers, “N” drivers are required to have a blood alcohol content of zero.
Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported in the incident.
The driver received multiple penalties, including a $368 ticket for excessive speeding, which also carries three driver penalty points, as well as a $109 ticket for driving contrary to restrictions due to having alcohol in their system.
Additionally, the driver was issued a 12-hour driving suspension and had their vehicle impounded for seven days.
