A school in Campbell River is temporarily closed after a fire broke out Thursday night, but the blaze has since been contained.
According to the City of Campbell River Fire Department, they responded to a blaze at Carihi Secondary School at around 11 p.m., on Thursday, November 21st.
The fire was fortunately contained to just one portion of the school and there was no one inside the building at the time.
“Due to the prompt response of the City of Campbell River, Oyster River, and Courtenay Fire Departments, the fire was contained to the west side of the school,” said City of Campbell River Fire Chief, Dan Verdun.
“We are working to assess the building and thank all Campbell River residents, particularly the students and staff at Carihi, for their patience.”
Campbell River fire crews remain at the scene of the fire and will continue to do so throughout the day to monitor the structure.
The City is asking the public to stay away from the school area and to follow all directions from staff, emergency services and on-site security as they continue to assess the building and perform an investigation.
The City says no injuries resulted from this blaze; however, the cause remains unknown at this time.
As of this publication the school’s closure is only expected to interfere with Carihi’s operations on Friday, November 22nd.
