Two downtown Victoria businesses suffered significant damage after a vehicle crashed into their building over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Just before 11 a.m. on Sunday, October 13th, police were called to a motor vehicle incident in the 500-block of Johnson Street.
A single vehicle had struck a business window and a nearby pay booth. VicPD confirmed officers attended the scene, gathered evidence, and an investigation is ongoing.
Among the affected businesses are Dancing Lily and LADS, both of which remain open despite the damage.
In a statement on social media, the owner of Dancing Lily acknowledged the situation but assured customers that the shop is safe to visit.
“Our storefront may be boarded up today, but we’ve been deemed safe to open, and we’d love to see you if you’re out and about downtown!” the business shared on Monday.
“We truly appreciate your support and understanding during this time.”
The statement continued, “As many of you may know, a car drove into our shop just before we opened, but thankfully no one was inside, and no one on the sidewalk or in the vehicle was hurt.”
Both businesses have faced challenges over the past year but expressed gratitude that this incident has not forced them to close.
“As downtown business owners, we know that there are things beyond our control, but we’re tackling this latest hurdle with gratitude and positivity, knowing how lucky we are that no one was injured.”
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
