The District of Saanich has decided to host their first ever town hall-style meeting for residents to voice their concerns, ideas and feedback.
This town hall will have Mayor Dean Murdock present along with municipal council members who will be present to hear from the District’s residents and answer to the issues impacting them.
The meeting will be the first of its kind in Saanich and the District hopes it will provide a platform for people to speak in a more casual setting than the regularly scheduled council meetings.
“We’re excited to offer residents a new and more interactive way of engaging with your Council,” says Saanich Mayor Dean Murdock.
“Our goal is to ensure we hear from more people, especially those who may not be comfortable speaking in a more formal setting.”
The District says the idea for the town hall meeting was prompted by community feedback and the desire to have more in-depth interaction between the mayor and council with residents.
To provide a more casual setting for people to speak, the meeting will be held at the Cedar Hill Golf Course.
All residents are invited to come ready with their opinions, new ideas and feedback, regarding any matter that falls within the mayor and council’s scope of work.
The District says the plan is to separate the evening into two portions:
- The first hour will have no set agenda, allowing residents to speak on topics they care about for up to three minutes each
- During the second hour, residents and council will have the opportunity to engage in informal, one-on-one conversations, with with less formalities
