The victim of a fatal cycling accident in Central Saanich last weekend has been identified by her husband as 41-year-old Lindsay Burgess.
The incident took place just after 10 a.m. at a problematic intersection on Central Saanich Road, where a cyclist was struck by a southbound driver.
According to Sgt. Paul Brailey of Central Saanich Police, Burgess was travelling north when the collision occurred.
At the time, Burgess was participating in the TripleShot CrossFondo cycling event, which she had previously ridden multiple times.
Witnesses noted that the intersection poses challenges for both cyclists and motorists, as southbound traffic has the option to curve left onto Tanner Road without signalling or stopping.

The cyclist was reportedly facing a stop sign, while a volunteer road marshal was present to assist with traffic, although there may have been confusion surrounding right-of-way rules. Police were not actively managing traffic at the scene and details surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
The driver involved in the collision remained on scene and is fully cooperating with investigators, police said.
In the wake of this tragedy, Chad Grice, Burgess’s husband, shared a heartfelt statement expressing his devastation over the loss of his wife. He described Lindsay as a beloved member of the cycling and sailing communities, cherished by many across Vancouver Island and the mainland.
In a post shared on Instagram, Grice reflected on the impact of her life, saying, “I have no words to express how devastated I am, and I’m truly sorry that many of you are feeling the same way.” He acknowledged the overwhelming support from friends and family and urged everyone to take care of themselves and their loved ones.

To assist Grice in managing the sudden loss, some of his coworkers launched a GoFundMe campaign, which has raised over $10,000 as of the publication of this article.
