A portion of Highway 14 remains closed due to the damage caused from heavy rain and washouts over the weekend.
Specifically a 35 kilometre stretch between Deering Road and Petrel Drive, which will require considerable repair work.
The Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure completed geotech assessments on Sunday, October 20th and confirmed that crews are working as quickly as possible to address the impacted sites.
This includes six separate damaged sites, with repairs ranging from basic work to culvert replacements.
Water runoff activity is still active at one of the sites, and is bringing debris and soil onto the highway. Crews will begin to clear it once the activity subsides.
The ministry has estimated the highway’s reopening to traffic on late Wednesday, October 23rd.
In the meantime, Pacific Marine Road is open and serving as a detour, and their maintenance contractor has patrols in place to ensure it remains passable until the highway reopens.
