The team returns home this weekend for back-to-back games, featuring Marty the Marmot’s birthday celebration and a chance for fans to skate with the players.
Things are looking great for the Royals as they return home from a successful four-game road trip, securing six out of a possible eight points.
With nine points on the season, the Royals are now sitting in second place in the Western Conference.
Adding to the excitement, Royals’ goaltender Spencer Michnik was named WHL Goaltender of the Week following his stellar performance this past weekend.
Michnik, who appeared in the Royals’ matchup against the Wenatchee Wild on Saturday, October 5th, recorded his first career WHL shutout, leading the team to a 3-0 victory.
Facing 22 shots, Michnik became the first goaltender in the WHL this season to secure a shutout, setting the tone for what could be an impressive season for the Royals.
The Royals’ strong road performance bodes well as they return home for an exciting double-header against the Wenatchee Wild on Friday, October 11th and Saturday October 12th.
Friday night will mark the first game fans can look forward to seeing players like Justin Kipkie, Reggie Newman, and Markus Loponen back in action after their stints at NHL training camps.
It will also be the first home game since Kipkie was named the ninth captain of the team.
In addition, over the weekend, the Royals acquired 2004-born forward Brayden Boehm from the Medicine Hat Tigers for a 2026 third-round pick and a conditional 2027 fifth-round pick.
Boehm, from Nanaimo, is in his fifth WHL season. The 6’0″, 188-lb forward has 70 points (31 goals, 39 assists) in 153 regular-season games and attended the Edmonton Oilers’ Rookie Camp this season.
“Brayden is a player we feel will add offense to our team,” said Royals GM Jake Heisinger. “We’re excited to bring him home to finish his junior career.”
Saturday’s game promises even more excitement with an early 4:05 p.m. start. The evening will be extra special as it marks Marty the Marmot’s birthday, with plenty of celebrations planned.
Fans can join in on the festivities with other mascots, enjoy birthday cake, and have a chance to get their hands on exclusive Marty the Marmot posters, with the first 500 fans receiving the giveaway.
As an added treat, fans will have the opportunity to skate with the players after the game, making it a perfect family-friendly matinee event.
With their recent strong performances, a motivated roster, and the home crowd behind them, the Royals are ready to make their mark in back-to-back battles against the Wenatchee Wild this weekend.
