Comox Valley RCMP have confirmed they have identified and arrested a suspect accused of smashing a woman’s windshield with an axe while she was camping in her vehicle.
The arrest follows an incident reported on August 6th. The victim, a woman camping in her vehicle along Comox Lake Road between the Village of Cumberland and Comox Lake, was approached by an unknown man.
The man, who had exited a medium-sized dark sedan with no front license plate, struck the windshield of the victim’s vehicle with an axe before fleeing towards Comox Lake.
Police have now confirmed the arrest of 33-year-old Kaj Peterson of Cumberland on August 9th. Peterson has been charged with mischief and assault with a weapon.
He was held for court and has since been released, with a scheduled court appearance set for August 29th.
The investigation remains ongoing, according to police.
