Saanich Police are sounding a strong warning to drivers as they gear up for the BC long weekend, following a significant increase of impaired drivers caught this week.
In a span of just over 24 hours, officers apprehended nearly a dozen impaired drivers.
On Tuesday, July 30th, Saanich Police issued seven license suspensions and impounded five vehicles, all within a four-hour window from 8 p.m. to midnight.
The drivers apprehended were found to be impaired by either alcohol or drugs.

The following night, on Wednesday July 31st, Saanich Police posted on X that an additional four license suspensions and two more vehicle impoundments.
This brought the total number of impaired drivers taken off the roads to eleven in just over a day.
“Drivers, if you drink or do drugs, DON’T DRIVE! Call a taxi, use a ride share, or have a designated driver,” Saanich Police said in a social media post on X.
“When you get behind the wheel impaired you’re risking not only your life but others in the community. ”
As the BC long weekend approaches, Saanich Police are urging anyone planning to drink or use drugs to arrange for a safe ride home.
