Just a heads up if you plan to travel Shawnigan Lake Road in the coming months.
Starting Monday, August 19th, motorists travelling through the Shawnigan Lake area can expect smoother journeys as repaving and road improvements get underway.
The project will cover Shawnigan Lake Road from the intersection with West Shawnigan Lake Road to Verlon Road, a 3.5-kilometre stretch.
The planned improvements include regrading and widening of the road, the addition of new gravel shoulders, and full repaving.
The updated road will feature its existing three-metre lanes plus 1.2 metres of paved shoulders, though some intersections with constrained areas, like driveways, may not accommodate the full shoulder width.
Construction will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, and is anticipated to wrap up by mid-October.
During this period, local vehicle access will be maintained, but general traffic will be diverted via West Shawnigan Lake Road.
Drivers should anticipate delays of up to 30 minutes in the construction zone and are advised to use alternative routes where possible to minimize travel disruptions.
The public is urged to follow all safety signage and traffic-management instructions.
