As construction is now underway on Blanshard Street in order to install new bike lanes and upgrade safety along the corridor, some delays may occur.
Don Mann Excavating Ltd. won the contract to complete the construction for the City of Victoria and say they are doing their best to mitigate impacts on nearby residents and businesses.
Those in the area and motorists travelling along Blanshard can expect machinery, excavation, noise, safety equipment and temporary traffic controls around the active work sites.
The City says working hours will typically be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., and should there be additional weekend, holiday or night work, advance notice will be provided.

In regards to specific impacts, the parking lane adjacent to 805 Yates Street will be unavailable to drivers as it will be used as a storage area for machinery being used in the construction. The sidewalk will remain open.
Between View Street and Yates Street along Blanshard, crews are working on the installation of underground electrical utilities, which will involve potential sidewalk detours, travel lane reductions as needed and intermittent parking restrictions.
Some of these activities and their impacts will be weather dependent, according to the City.
Following the work’s completions, Blanshard Street will feature a repaved road, safer crosswalks, improved lighting, accessible parking spaces, protected bicycle lanes, new trees and improved landscaping.
The City says this project should be completed in spring 2025.
