The E&N Regional Trail overpass at Hereward Road will soon have a brand new mural by a talented local artist, as well as murals on adjacent retaining walls up and down the street!
Once again, Esquimalt Community Arts Hub (ECAH) is putting on East West Mural Fest, and as a part of this endeavour, they are raising money to pay for a mural to be painted by Alex Taylor-McCallum.
In 2022, Taylor-McCallum did a new mural on one side of the overpass at Hereward Road and this year he has been hired to complete the project and create a new piece on the other side.
In addition to painting his mural, Taylor-McCallum will also be curating a group of other emerging Indigenous artists to design and paint the adjacent retaining walls.
ECAH says the final result of this project will be several unique murals with a cohesive theme and colour scheme, that brighten and Indigenize the neighborhood located in the heart of Esquimalt.
While ECAH has funding to cover Taylor-McCallum’s artist fees and supplies, they’re looking for help to fund the retaining walls around the E&N overpass and along Hereward Road.
As of this publication, ECAH has raised $1,750 of their $2,500 goal.
