Search underway for missing 70-year-old Saanich man last seen leaving on bike ride (UPDATED)

UPDATE: Saanich Police have confirmed that 70-year-old William Bender is no longer considered missing. Family informed Victoria Buzz the outcome was not what they had hoped for and that is a sad day for them. No other details were made available.

Saanich Police are seeking public assistance in locating a missing 70-year-old man last seen on Monday, July 1st, at around 1 p.m.

According to police, William Bender left his house in the 3200-block of Service Road for a bike ride on Canada Day and never returned.

Bender is reportedly known to bike around UVic as well as the PKOLS (Mt. Douglas Park) area.

Police describe him as bald, standing 6’2” tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a green button-up shirt, blue shorts, a head lamp and carrying a black backpack.

Anyone who may have seen Bender or knows his whereabouts should call Saanich Police at (250) 475-4321.
