As of July, Linwood Court in Saanich is officially open and welcoming residents!
The building is now offering nearly 100 new affordable rental homes for seniors, and new tenants are beginning to move in.
It’s located at 200 Linwood Avenue, and was redeveloped into a four-storey, wood-frame building with 97 one-bedroom units—designed for seniors 55 and older with low to moderate incomes who can live independently.
There are seven wheelchair accessible units, scooter parking, high ceilings, outdoor gardens and an amenity space for all residents to enjoy.
Plus, it’s close to transit, surrounding parks and grocery stores.
“After a lifetime of service to our nation, our seniors deserve nothing less than a comfortable retirement in their own communities,” said Sean Fraser, federal Minister of Housing, Infrastructure and Communities.
“We will keep investing in projects and working with partners across the country to give them just that.”
The Linwood Court development replaced the 29-unit building that had reached the end of its lifespan, and the residents of the original building were offered the opportunity to return to the new space with no change to their rent.
It’s owned and operated by the Baptist Housing Society of BC, a renowned seniors housing provider.
“We are thrilled to welcome back several former Linwood Court residents to re-establish this vibrant, supportive community in which the older adults of Saanich can enjoy affordable, comfortable homes,” said Marc Kinna, CEO, Baptist Housing Society of BC.
Move-ins began in July and there are still some vacancies available for those on the hunt for a new place to call home. If you wish to apply for one of these rental units, you can do so here.
This project is part of a $19-billion housing investment by the BC government, and since 2017, nearly 80,000 homes have been delivered or are underway.
