Heavy smoke over the Saanich Peninsula Wednesday afternoon was caused by a house fire in North Saanich.
The blaze, which started around 2 p.m. at a home on Lochside Drive next to Cy Hampson Park (a dog park), prompted a response from fire detachments in Sidney, North Saanich, and Central Saanich.

Smoke from the fire could be seen throughout the Saanich Peninsula and was doused shortly after 3 p.m., about an hour after the blaze started.

There were no injuries as a result of the fire. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
A portion of Lochside Road was closed for a short time while fire crews battled the fire.
