The heat warning isn’t finished with Vancouver Island after an extremely hot weekend.
After temperatures reached up to 30°C in Victoria and got even hotter for other regions of the island, this week will see the heat continue.
According to Environment Canada, there will continue to be a heat warning in effect for Greater Victoria, Southern Gulf Islands, East Vancouver Island and Inland Vancouver Island until Tuesday evening.
“A strong ridge of high pressure over the region has ushered in very high temperatures,” says Environment Canada’s heat warning.
“Daytime highs will be in the low 30’s away from the water with overnight lows near 16 degrees.”
The national weather authority states that daytime high temperatures are expected to moderate starting Wednesday morning, but warm weather will persist through the rest of the week.

Beginning on Wednesday, daily highs will dip down to 26°C from 30°C and will stay at that temperature through Sunday and into next week.
Nightly low temperatures will remain around 14°C.
Additionally, Environment Canada predicts this week will be sunny every day with no cloud or rain in the forecast.

When a heat warning is in effect, Environment Canada warns people to watch for the effects of heat illness, which are heavy sweating, rash, cramps, fainting, high body temperature and the worsening of some other health conditions.
“Never leave susceptible people, particularly children, or pets inside a parked vehicle,” they also warn.
“If you are in an overheated area, seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, splash pad, misting station, or air-conditioned spot like a public building.”
There are several splash pads in Greater Victoria that are operational and a perfect place to cool down through this week.
