Victoria firefighters were called to respond to reports of a believed-to-be rogue beach fire on the Dallas Road waterfront this morning.
On Thursday, July 25th at around 5:35 a.m., members of the public called 911 to alert the fire department that a brush fire was working its way up the embankment and spreading quickly.
Firefighters were dispatched, and by working in tandem from above and below, the crews were able to extinguish the fire after over an hour of effort.

Although the origin of the fire has not been confirmed, crews believe it was most likely a beach fire that was left unattended and carried to the brush by the morning’s wind.
“With so many fires ravaging BC and Alberta, it is surprising that we are still having incidents like the fire this morning on the Dallas Road waterfront,” reads a Victoria Firefighters Facebook post.
“Beach fires are not permitted in Victoria. Even though the setting may be ideal, please resist the urge.”
Given the dry conditions, they noted that this fire could have become a much larger incident.
