Adventure awaits you this Canada Day, Victoria!
If you’ve been meaning to deep dive into the wondrous national historic sites and parks across the region and beyond, now’s your chance.
In celebration of Canada Day on Monday, July 1st, Parks Canada invites everyone to connect with some of the most iconic places in Canada for free!
No admission costs will be required upon entry, and they hope that this will encourage reflection on the diverse perspectives of our shared culture and history.
“This includes learning more about the historic and contemporary contributions of Indigenous peoples, their histories and cultures, as well as the special relationships Indigenous peoples have with ancestral lands and waters,” a Parks Canada release reads.
So, whether you’re in search of adventure, fun for the whole family, or needing to get out into nature, Parks Canada offers many unique opportunities to do so.
Examples of National Historic Sites in and around Vancouver Island include Fort Rodd Hill and Fisgard Lighthouse, and the Gulf Islands National Park Reserve.
Did you know that Parks Canada protects 171 national historic sites, 47 national parks, five national marine conservation areas and one national urban park?
Not only do these sites preserve important pieces of history, they also help the local economy and employ tens of thousands of people nationwide.
