Nearly 3,000 BC Hydro customers in Central Saanich were without power Monday night after a single vehicle crash.
The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on Monday, June 3rd, on East Saanich Road between Mt. Newton Cross Road and Prosser Road.
According to Central Saanich Police, the vehicle collided with a hydro pole, shearing it in half and bringing down live power lines.
The car also crashed into two parked vehicles, causing minor damage to those vehicles.
Following the crash, the vehicle erupted into flames. Fortunately, the driver was able to escape, sustaining what are believed to be minor injuries.
Nearly 3,000 BC Hydro customers lost power due to the crash, and many were without power until Tuesday morning.
Police said the accident is still under investigation, but drug or alcohol impairment is not believed to be a factor.
A portion of East Saanich Road was closed for several hours while police investigated the crash, and hydro crews worked to restore power.
