Those who commute along Tillicum or Burnside Road will have noticed the empty lot which divides the two arterial roads sitting vacant across from Tillicum Centre.
Well after years of preparation, design and approval processes, a groundbreaking ceremony is being held on Tuesday, June 18th, and construction will beunderway shortly thereafter.
The Odyssey, located at 3400 Tillicum Road at Burnside Road, is to be one of the largest new rental developments to be built in Saanich, and will feature 242 purpose-built rental homes as well as over 14,000 square feet of commercial retail space.
This development is being built in partnership between Ovis Group, Stratosphere Properties, and Ironclad Developments.
The Odyssey will be comprised of two, six-storey wood frame buildings.
The units in the twin buildings will feature 50 studios, 84 one-bedroom units, 92-two-bedroom/one bedroom plus den units, four-three bedroom units and 12 townhomes.
Of the 242 units, only 12 homes are designated as “affordable units,” meaning that for 10 years they are to be rented at 10% below new market rentals at the time of occupancy.
Energy-wise, the Odyssey has been designed to operate using approximately 40% less energy than is called for by the 2017 National Energy Code for Buildings
The project was designed locally by Victoria-based DYS Architecture.
Ironclad Developments has their hands on another massive Tillicum Road undertaking with the Points West project, which has been getting the demolition phases of the construction process underway by tearing down the numerous homes on the property.
