IIO investigation launched after cyclist struck by Central Saanich Police officer’s vehicle

The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) has launched an investigation following an incident in which a cyclist was struck by an on-duty Central Saanich police vehicle.

The collision occurred around 10 p.m. on Tuesday in the 7100-block of Wallace Drive.

The Central Saanich Police Service reported the incident to the IIO on the same day.

The IIO, an independent civilian oversight agency, is responsible for investigating all officer-related incidents that result in serious harm or death, regardless of any allegations of wrongdoing.

Details surrounding the circumstances of the collision remain limited as the investigation is in its early stages.

The IIO is seeking assistance from the public and is asking anyone who may have video footage or additional information about the incident to come forward. Witnesses can contact the IIO witness line at 1-855-446-8477.
