42-year-old pedestrian dead after being struck by a vehicle in Sooke

A 42-year-old pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle early Thursday morning.

The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. February 29th, in the 6900 block of West Coast Road in Sooke.

In a press release, Sooke RCMP said they received a report of a woman who had been struck by a silver GMC Sierra pick up truck.

BC Emergency Health Services and the Sooke Fire Department also attended and attempted to resuscitate the woman, but she succumbed to her injuries.

The road was closed for a large portion of the day as collision analyst worked to determine the causes that led to the crash.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, remained at the scene and cooperated with police.

Alcohol or drugs were ruled out as factors. However, the driver of the truck was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention.

The location of the victim prior to the collision remains under investigation.

Police were able to notify the next-of-kin for the victim and sought the assistance of Victim Services.
