Paid parking hours in Victoria will likely be extended following city council vote

No more free parking after 6 p.m. — the City of Victoria will likely be extending the times people have to pay for parking throughout the city beginning next month.

The matter came before Victoria’s city council on March 16th, and has had mixed reviews since it became a possibility.

With rising costs and an all-time high inflation rate, council is trying to come up with ways to make less cuts to their services and amenities while saving Victoria homeowners money on their property taxes.

Increasing the amount of money made from parking throughout the city is one way of doing this.

The city is proposing to extend the hours people must pay for on-street and parkade parking to avoid getting a ticket from 9 a.m. until 6 p.m. to 8 a.m until 8 p.m.

If the city council passes the bylaw amendments on Thursday, April 20th, the changes will come into effect on May 1st.

The City of Victoria has already changed their parking hours online to include the pending changes coming May 1st and they tweeted about the changes on Monday, April 17th, so it is expected that city council will pass this bylaw amendment Thursday evening.

Parking rates will not be impacted by this bylaw’s amendments, should it pass through council.
