A housing complex run by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul in Saanich was evacuated on Thursday afternoon after a fire.
According to Saanich Fire Deputy Chief Dan Wood, the fire broke out in the daycare area on the ground floor of the four-storey building at around 4 p.m. on December 12th.
“It was a small fire that was extinguished by sprinklers in the building,” Deputy Chief Wood tells Victoria Buzz.
The building has been evacuated while authorities clear out the smoke. No injuries have been reported.
Investigators are now working to determine the cause of the fire.
Saanich Fire are also advising motorists to take an alternate route as the area surrounding the housing complex is experiencing traffic congestion.

The housing complex established in 2016 features 42 affordable housing units for single mothers and other vulnerable women.
