The Victoria-Swan Lake electoral district is made up of the northern portions of Victoria and the southern portions of Saanich.
Since 2009, when the riding was established, voters have always elected a BC NDP MLA in this area.
Rob Flemming was the elected representative of Victoria-Swan Lake between 2009 and 2024 when Nina Krieger replaced him as the BC NDP candidate and won by a margin of nearly 9,000 votes.
Here are the candidates running to be the next MLA of the Victoria-Swan Lake electoral District.
Nina Krieger – BC NDP (incumbent)
Krieger prides herself on being a community leader, working to advance education, justice and create a brighter and more equal future for everyone in BC.
In her time in office, she has acted as minister of public safety and solicitor-general. Through this role, she has worked to expand training opportunities for law enforcement and innovative programs to tackle crime, break cycles of violence and support victims and vulnerable communities.
She has also served as parliamentary secretary for arts and film, where she worked to advance opportunities for the South Island’s film sector.
Before her election in 2024, Krieger served as executive director of Western Canada’s leading Holocaust museum.
Krieger has run in the provincial election only once before in 2024 and won.

Carolyn Howe – BC Green Party
Howe has worked as an educator, public education advocate, labour leader and has lived her whole life in Victoria.
She has worked her way up in the community, beginning with her early jobs waiting tables, then moving to teaching and is now the president of the Greater Victoria Teachers’ Association.
Howe has taught at South Park Family School since 2005, leading an inclusive music program, and she believes her years in the classroom have given her a firsthand view of the pressures many families are facing.
In her role as president of the Greater Victoria Teachers’ Association, she has focused on listening to educators, students and families, ensuring that the people working directly in schools have meaningful representation.
She believes communities depend on strong public services, and is an advocate for affordable and stable housing, accessible healthcare, thriving public schools, economic fairness and taking action to protect the climate.
This is Howe’s first time running in a provincial election.
