The International Tea Appreciation Society (ITAS) is spilling the tea on an interesting event happening this October!
The Victoria Tea Festival Revival will be taking place on Saturday, October 3rd, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Nootka Court, uniting tea lovers in celebrating one of the world’s oldest traditions.
The event will bring attendees together to learn and celebrate the culture of tea, as well as enjoy tea tastings all day long.
This year, the festival is celebrating its 11th anniversary with a new farm-to-cup experience, connecting tea drinkers directly with teas sourced from around the world.
The Tea Festival Revival will feature a tea market, a farmers market-style showcase, with demonstrations and tastings from Vancouver Island, Vancouver and beyond.
It will also feature a symposium with expert talks on the discovery and creation of tea in India, decolonizing Indonesian tea production, intergenerational transfer of tea roasting knowledge, a Japanese tea ceremony and more.
The symposium will also be live-streamed on the society’s YouTube channel.
One of the highlights of the festival is the World Tea Championships, where contestants will showcase their tea-making skills in competitive Gongfu tea-making.
“This festival is always a celebration of those who drink tea and want to enrich their lives, alongside those who wish to hone their tea-making skill,” said Jared Nyberg, representative of the International Tea Appreciation Society.
Festival go-ers are encouraged to bring their own tea cup, although a limited number of cups will be available at the festival by donation upon entry.
Admission to the event is suggested at $15 to $25, with proceeds supporting ITAS, the non-profit that organizes the festival.
