A local McDonald’s restaurant manager is saying ‘I’m lovin’ it’ after winning a prestigious award with the company.
Barb Bourne, a manager at a Victoria McDonald’s restaurant located at 3465 Saanich Road, has been recognized by the restaurant as one of the top 1% of managers worldwide.
Bourne has been given a 2026 Ray Kroc Award, bestowed upon McDonald’s restaurant managers around the world for demonstrating quality leadership, training and career dedication.
This year, 13 managers in Canada were chosen for the award.
Bourne started as a crew member at McDonald’s 21 years ago as a high school student. With encouragement from her team and leadership at the restaurant, she quickly moved up the ranks and was promoted to restaurant manager in 2014.
“I was very shocked when I was told I had won the Ray Kroc Award,” said Bourne.
“I go to work every day and do my best for my team. To see that the people I work with and for thinking so highly of me was very humbling. It’s a great feeling and I’m so thankful for their support.”
McDonald’s franchisees and regional management nominate managers for the Ray Kroc award every two years. The restaurant says the award celebrates McDonald’s’ commitment to developing leaders and creating opportunities for employees of all ages and backgrounds to succeed.
“Barb is an exceptional leader who understands that running a great restaurant starts with taking care of your team,” said Bob Carpenter, Victoria McDonald’s franchisee.
“She is incredibly approachable, rallies her team behind every challenge and always puts her people first. This award is well-deserved and recognizes her dedication to our guests and our crew.”
Before her Ray Kroc Award win, Bourne has previously won Outstanding Manager of the Year twice, which recognizes the top 5% of managers across more than 1,500 McDonald’s restaurants in the country.
She is also a big supporter of supporting local youth through initiatives like McHappy Day, which gives back to local schools.
