Campbell River RCMP is calling for the public’s assistance in identifying two suspects in connection to a series of break and enters in the downtown core last week.
The first instances occurred during the early morning hours of Monday, July 13th and Tuesday, July 14th when police responded to three break and enters and two attempted break and enters at local businesses in the area.
Since that time, there have been additional incidents. In total there have been seven break and enters and two attempted break and enters.
According to police, the suspects are believed to have gained entry to the businesses by smashing the front glass doors and windows before entering and stealing merchandise.
Items reported stolen include cellular phones, clothing, a hair dryer and baseball bats. Police noted that in the two attempted break-ins, suspects were unable to gain entry but caused significant damage to the businesses.
Investigators have released surveillance images of the two individuals believed to be connected to the incidents and are asking anyone who recognizes them to come forward.
The first suspect was seen wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and dark shoes, while the second second suspect was observed wearing a light-coloured hooded sweatshirt, light-coloured sweatpants and dark footwear.
“These incidents resulted in substantial property damage and losses to local businesses,” said Corporal Brett Urano, RCMP spokesperson.
“We are asking anyone who recognizes the individuals in the photographs or who has information about these break-ins to contact investigators.”
In response to these incidents, Campbell River RCMP has ramped up their downtown presence in attempts to prevent further occurrences.
