Two men are facing multiple criminal charges following an investigation into an alleged violent sexual assault at a residence in Victoria.
According to VicPD, the investigation began after the Nanaimo RCMP contacted VicPD on June 20th regarding an incident that allegedly took place between June 19th and June 20th.
Police say a woman reported that one of the accused drove her from Nanaimo to a residence in the 1100 block of Meares Street, where she was introduced to a second man.
Investigators allege the second man sexually assaulted her multiple times and prevented her from leaving the residence.
“The allegations in this case are serious and deeply concerning,” said VicPD Deputy Chief Jamie McRae in a statement.
“We know that hearing about this type of violence in our communities can impact people’s sense of safety and wellbeing. Our officers are doing everything they can to investigate the matter.”
VicPD officers arrested two men on June 21st. Both remain in custody and are scheduled to appear in court on July 2nd.
Police say 24-year-old Rahul Chahar has been charged with sexual assault causing bodily harm, unlawful confinement and attempting to choke to overcome resistance.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old Nagender Nagender has been charged with trafficking in persons.
The investigation remains before the courts.
