Thousands of residents across the Saanich Peninsula are without power Friday afternoon after multiple outages were reported in North Saanich, Sidney and Central Saanich.

According to BC Hydro, 8,291 customers are currently affected by five separate outages that all began at approximately 2:29 p.m.

Most of the outages have been attributed to trees down across power lines, while the cause of one outage affecting parts of Central Saanich and North Saanich remains under investigation.

The largest reported outages include:

  • 2,316 customers in the area west of Third Street, south of McDonald Park Road, east of Kittyhawk Road and north of Pat Bay Highway
  • 2,174 customers north of North Ridge Road and west of Tsehum Road
  • 1,476 customers south of Clayton Road and west of Galaran Road
  • 1,213 customers west of Emard Terrace, south of McTavish Road, north of Jeffree Road and east of Dean Park Road
  • 1,093 customers south of McKenzie Crescent, east of Littlewood Road and north of Pat Bay Highway

BC Hydro has assigned crews to all five outages and is working to restore service as quickly as possible.

There is currently no estimated time for power to be restored.
