Do you have World Cup fever yet, Victoria?
Because we’ve got some exciting news for soccer fans!
Just in time for World Cup action, the Downtown Victoria Business Association (DVBA) and the City of Victoria have announced a six-week celebration of international soccer called Summer of Soccer right in the heart of downtown.
From now until July 19th, downtown Victoria will come alive with free, soccer-themed events, match watch parties, and opportunities for everyone in Victoria to experience the excitement of the games while getting involved in the community.
Summer of Soccer kicked off on June 12th on Government Street with a high-energy street activation, featuring a DJ and tons of giveaways.
But don’t fret, you haven’t missed out!
Throughout the tournament, Market Square, along with over ten downtown bars, pubs and restaurants, will be offering space for fans to gather and enjoy the games together, with large screens and a lively atmosphere centred around community spirit.
“Summer of Soccer is a great opportunity to bring people together in our public spaces and
celebrate the energy of a global game in a local way,” said Marianne Alto, Mayor of the City of Victoria.
“We look forward to welcoming residents and visitors downtown for cool events like these throughout the summer.”
Jeff Bray, CEO of DVBA, also stressed that the atmosphere in Market Square and other downtown Victoria establishments will be the best place for Victoria residents and visitors to catch Team Canada and their favourite World Cup teams.
“Downtown Victoria will be the place in the region this summer for all the excitement international soccer represents. Supporting local businesses while sharing the thrill of this 6-week extravaganza with old friends and new ones is what the Summer of Soccer is all about,” said Bray.
If you’re interested in getting involved in the community and experiencing some electric atmosphere during World Cup games, get down to the downtown core this summer!
