A witness report helped police locate a driver showing signs of suspected impairment in Langford last week.

According to West Shore RCMP, officers responded to a report of an erratic driver on Happy Valley Road at approximately 2:42 p.m. on June 4th.

Police say a witness observed a grey van swerving in and out of its lane before stopping near the 3400 block of Happy Valley Road.

Officers located the driver unconscious inside the vehicle. The driver later regained consciousness and police said she displayed signs and symptoms consistent with suspected impairment.

A drug-impaired driving investigation was initiated and the 39-year-old woman was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition. The van was impounded.

The investigation remains ongoing pending the results of a drug test.

West Shore RCMP say they have removed more than 70 impaired drivers from local roadways since the beginning of 2026, including 11 drivers suspected of being impaired by drugs.

Police noted the incident occurred near an elementary school during the afternoon. They also thanked the witness for reporting the driver’s behaviour.

Anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver is encouraged to contact police and provide as much information as possible, including the vehicle description, licence plate and location.
