The road construction at the intersection of Cook Street and Hillside Avenue will come to a head this Tuesday as crews will be shutting down traffic lights and manually directing motorists.
These significant traffic impacts will take place on June 9th from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. as new traffic signal light upgrades are tied into the existing system at the intersection of Cook and Hillside.
According to the City of Victoria, traffic will be maintained, but limited to a single lane in each direction and will be manually directed by traffic control crews.
The City says motorists should expect major traffic delays, no left turns, intermittent crosswalk closures, construction-related noise as well as dust and odours.
Transit riders can look to BC Transit’s alerts webpage for updates on impacts to bus routes.
The traffic light and intersection upgrades are part of a major project the City undertook to pave Cook Street, update maintenance, install protected bike lanes and improve accessibility.
Work on this project as a whole is scheduled to be completed this fall. The estimated completion date for the work at the corner of Cook and Hillside has not been revealed by the City.
