Significant traffic impacts expected for Cook Street as road construction continues

Share

The City of Victoria is warning motorists of additional road closures along Cook Street that will cause significant traffic impacts.

Between Tuesday, April 27th and Friday, May 8th, milling and paving work will commence on Cook Street between Hillside Avenue and Bay Street.

Notably, between Monday May 4th and Friday May 8th, southbound Cook Street will be closed to traffic between Hillside and Bay. During this time, a detour will be in effect.

Before that time, the City says that two-way traffic will be maintained, but delays are to be expected.

While this work is underway, aside from the closure and delay, those who use the corridor can also expect intermittent crosswalk closures and construction-related noise, dust and odours.

Those who ride transit along Cook Street can look at BC Transit’s alerts webpage for bus route and stop changes.

For those living in the area, local access will be maintained, but some driveway access will be temporarily restricted while asphalt cools. Property owners will be notified 24 hours before access is interrupted.

The construction along Cook Street will see several street upgrades completed on Cook Street, from Bay Street to Maplewood Road.

In addition to addressing road maintenance needs, the project will see protected bike lanes installed along Cook as well as new and improved crosswalks.

The City says that Cook Street is one of the highest collision corridors in Victoria.
