Victorians who want to support those in need will have the opportunity to do so at the end of month for the annual ‘Coldest Night of the Year’ walk.
This family-friendly fundraising walk returns on February 28th, bringing together the community in support of people experiencing housing and food insecurity in Greater Victoria.
Hundreds of participants—including families, neighbours, and community groups—will walk through downtown Victoria and Cook Street Village in solidarity with those facing cold winter nights without adequate shelter or food.
Last year, 400 walkers took part, raising $130,000 to support Our Place programs and services. This year, their goal is $140,000.
“Every act of care can become the starting point for transformation,” said Julian Daly, Our Place Society Executive Director.
“A warm dinner, a safe bed, or a moment of dignity can be the first step toward a new life. When Greater Victoria shows up for this walk, they’re doing more than fundraising — they’re helping create the conditions for lasting change.”
With rising food costs and demand for seniors’ community meals, Our Place Society has expanded its shelter, meal, and recovery supports to meet growing needs across the region.
Funds and awareness raised through the Coldest Night of the Year play a vital role in helping Our Place continue this work and support community members during the challenging winter months.
