A brand new urgent and primary care clinic (UPCC) is now open in Langford.
The Goldstream Medical Clinic, located on Bryn Maur Road, was officially opened in a ceremony held by the City of Langford and the South Island Primary Care Society.
This clinic is meant to make progress in addressing the urgent primary care needs of West Shore residents.
According to the City, the clinic will have 12,500 patients attached to its physicians by the end of 2026. This represents nearly half of the region’s current unattached residents, according to estimates.
Langford committed up to $1.7 million for tenant improvements, equipment and essential clinic setup needs with no additional funding coming from the provincial or federal governments.
The City also launched a marketing campaign for physician recruitment and helped fundraising efforts.
Furthermore, an interim clinic space was made available at city hall for $1 per year, allowing doctors to begin practicing before the new clinic was built.
“This clinic represents the kind of community we are, a community of action,” said Mayor Scott Goodmanson.
“In the face of a health‑care crisis, Council chose to be innovative, lean on partnerships, and respond to a critical community need.”
This new clinic is the fifth location opened by the South Island Primary Care Society, who operate as a non-profit society.
The clinic will have 10 physicians, all arriving throughout the year.
“The opening of our fifth clinic reflects the dedication of our frontline teams, who continually go above and beyond to meet the needs of our growing community,” said Alyssa Anders, Executive Director, South Island Primary Care Society.
“While we celebrate our accomplishments today, our focus remains firmly on the work ahead to address the primary care crisis.”
Anders added that the Goldstream Medical Clinic is the largest partnership to date for the Southern Island Primary Care Society.
Eligible prospective patients will be attached to physicians at the new clinic via the BC Health Registry waitlist.
Residents who have not already registered and are seeking a physician are encouraged to register.
