Netflix drops trailer for new show ‘Crew Girl’ that was shot in Greater Victoria

A new trailer was just released by Netflix for Crew Girl, featuring many recognizable locations in Greater Victoria. 

According to IMDb, Crew Girl follows a teen girl, Teagan Tao (Miku Martineau), who must escape with her mother to a small town after being disgraced by her father’s financial fraud.

In the small town, she tries to pursue her love of rowing, but without a girls’ team at her new prep school, she ends up being the only female rower on the boys’ team. 

The show is positioned as a romance, drama and coming of age story. 

Crew Girl’s trailer was released Wednesday, August 12th, and put many locations in Greater Victoria in the spotlight. 

Locals will recognize Hatley Castle, the Gorge waterway, Elk/Beaver Lake and Sidney, where filming occurred in September 2025. Other recognizable spots include Tillicum Road Bridge, Selkirk Trestle and Point Hope Maritime in Victoria’s Upper Harbour. 

Martineau, who plays the lead in the series, is a Canadian actor from Toronto, and the show features several other Canadians in the cast. 

Jessica Paré, who plays Martineau’s mother, is from Montreal; Samuel Braun, one of two indicated love interests, is from Vancouver; and a second apparent love interest, Kyle Clarke, is also a Canadian actor. 

Jason Ip, the show’s lead writer and executive producer, is also a fellow Canadian.

This is just the latest footage of a show/film shot in the Greater Victoria area. Recently a trailer was released by Crave for their new horror/thriller series Yaga, as well as This Is a Gardening Show, a recently Emmy-nominated show featuring Zach Galifianakis. 

All-in, Crew Girl will get an eight-episode run with Netflix, and may be greenlit for a second season if the show is successful. 

The show will launch on Netflix in October, but an exact release date and schedule have not yet been announced.
