The BC government has announced plans to build a new K–12 francophone school in Saanich, adding 465 student spaces and expanding French-language learning options in Greater Victoria.
École Beausoleil will be built on the Lansdowne Middle School site, replacing the program’s current temporary facility beside Braefoot Elementary.
The existing setup serves about 170 elementary students; the new school will accommodate an additional 295 students once complete.
This project will include 20 new classrooms, dedicated space for child care, community program space, and a low-carbon building design.
Construction is expected to begin in fall 2027, with the Province investing nearly $73 million.
Government officials say the school will provide francophone students with a modern learning environment and help meet growing demand for French-language education.
Community leaders, including the Conseil scolaire francophone, have welcomed the project and highlighted its significance for French-speaking families in the region.
École Beausoleil will become the second K–12 francophone school in Greater Victoria, joining École Victor-Brodeur in Esquimalt.
The Province says it has invested close to $300 million in francophone education infrastructure since 2017.
