A man in his 60s was caught driving more than 45 kilometres over the speed limit in Metchosin, according to West Shore RCMP.
The detachment posted to social media last week that a traffic officer stopped a Dodge Ram pickup truck travelling at 127 km/h in an 80 km/h zone near the 3700 block of Sooke Road.
The traffic stop happened at around 5:54 a.m. on November 21st.
Police say the driver, who is a West Shore resident, did not have a valid licence at the time of the stop. The vehicle was insured and no additional passengers have been confirmed.
The man was issued a $276 ticket for driving without a licence and a $368 fine for excessive speeding. His truck was towed and impounded for seven days.
In an email statement to Victoria Buzz, police could not confirm whether the driver had previous licence-related violations and said the reason for the excessive speed is unknown.
West Shore RCMP said they will continue to step up traffic enforcement in the region, particularly along major routes like Sooke Road, where speeding and unsafe driving are common concerns for both officers and the community.
