A magical winter show with ballet classics is coming to Oak Bay.
Victoria Academy of Ballet is inviting families to celebrate the season with FROST, an enchanting winter production taking place at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 6th.
The performance features the academy’s Vocational Division dancers in a three-hour program that blends classical ballet favourites with contemporary works.
Audiences will see excerpts from Coppélia, Sylvia, and The Sleeping Beauty, along with choreography by Canadian artists Alysa Pires and Angela Mousseau.
Pires, a Victoria-born choreographer, has had her work showcased by major companies including the National Ballet of Canada and the New York City Ballet.
Attendees will also have the chance to meet the performers following the show, along with complimentary hot chocolate and a photo opportunity with the dancers.
Academy Director Bleiddyn del Villar Bellis says the production highlights both community and training.
“FROST marks the beginning of our performance season, a celebration of artistry, community, and the joy of dance. Our students come from across Canada and around the world to train at VAB, and the standard of performance is that of a young professional company.”
The academy says it prides itself on the fact that many of its graduates go on to perform with professional companies in Canada and abroad.
Alumni have danced with ensembles such as Ballet Edmonton, the National Ballet of Canada, Royal Winnipeg Ballet, Ballet Kelowna, Orlando Ballet, Oklahoma City Ballet, Ballet Cymru in the United Kingdom, Ballet de Barcelona in Spain, and NBA Ballet Company in Japan.
The school says productions such as FROST help prepare students for the standards required by companies worldwide.
Tickets for the event are $25.94, offering an accessible holiday outing for families and ballet enthusiasts.
