Oceanside RCMP have arrested a 40-year-old Nanaimo man for allegedly breaking-and-entering into a Parksville business.
Police say that around 1 a.m. on November 10th, a commercial alarm was reported in the 400-block of Island Highway East in Parksville.
A patrolling officer responded, confirmed a break-in had occurred and quickly reviewed the business video surveillance.
Police were able to obtain a suspect description from this footage and determined the suspect had removed a safe from the business.
According to Oceanside RCMP, the suspect was located “within minutes,” in a vehicle a short distance away.
“Once again, video surveillance was critical in helping police make a quick arrest,” said Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP.
“Video surveillance is invaluable in solving crime and this case illustrates the importance of functioning and immediately available video surveillance.”
Police say the safe had been discarded by the suspect and was recovered by police near the business.
The suspect, Mitchell Andonov, was held in custody before appearing in court where he was charged with break and enter and breach of release order.
