Saanich Police have made an arrest following an incident of a firearm being discharged by an individual near Torquay Village and Mount Doug Market.
On August 26th, just before 10:30 p.m., police received a report of a firearm being discharged near the intersection of Shelbourne Street and Torquay Drive.
Police say the caller reported a brief interaction with individuals in a vehicle, which is what initiated the incident.
Following this, one of the occupants produced a handgun and fired a shot into the air before leaving the area.
Saanich Police say they responded immediately and were speaking with witnesses when the suspect vehicle returned to the scene.
Police stopped the vehicle and took the driver and occupants into custody.
In searching the area with assistance from the Integrated Canine Service, a loaded handgun was located not far from where the vehicle was stopped.
Saanich Police’s Major Crime Unit has since taken over the investigation.
Investigators say they believe this was an isolated incident and there is no ongoing risk to the public.
