If you were heading up-island toward Lake Cowichan this past weekend, you might have noticed the traffic was heavier than usual.

The reason? Thousands of music fans made their way to Laketown Amphitheatre on Saturday for one of the largest paid concert events in Vancouver Island’s history.

Canadian rock icons Nickelback headlined the show, marking their first performance on the Island in more than two decades. Joining them on the bill were crowd favourites Sam Roberts and The Glorious Sons, helping to set the stage for an unforgettable night of live music.

Nickelback delivered a powerhouse set packed with their biggest hits, from “How You Remind Me” to “Photograph,” “Rockstar,” and “Burn It to the Ground.”

And as expected, the band’s propane-fueled pyrotechnics lit up the night sky as thousands sang along—a pro move for a crowd that had been waiting over 20 years to see them live here.

“Nickelback’s return to Vancouver Island is a momentous occasion for the region’s music fans,” wrote Laketown Ranch, which hosted the massive show.

Those in attendance were quick to share their praise:

“One of the best concerts I’ve been to! They put on an amazing show—it exceeded my expectations,” said Deanna Quesnel.

“Fantastic show, and really good energy from the crowds. Glorious Sons were also really great as well!” added Heather Irwin.

“I did three festivals this year and this one was the biggest with the best prices and fastest lineups. If you’re smart enough to take a shuttle, in and out was a breeze. Great show,” shared Judy Graham.

And while Nickelback brought the fire on stage, a local business got to fuel them off-stage.

Little Town Pizza in Lake Cowichan shared that they had the honour of serving up stacks of their fan-favourite pies—classic cheese, the Canadian, meat lovers, and more—for the band after the show.

“Look at this photograph… Every time we do it makes us laugh… because this photograph is of the stacks of pizzas we got to make heading to the legendary Nickelback team after their concert at Laketown Ranch tonight,” the shop wrote. “Thanks Nickelback for letting us be a small part of your big night! (And for all the bangers we will forever sing along to.)”

From the roaring flames to the sea of fans singing in unison, it was a night that will go down in Island music history.

For those that missed it or anyone wanting to relive the moment, here’s a wrap-up of photos and videos from the show:
